first couple's first dance

I'm not crazy about Obama but i do agree that he and the first lady made such a lovely couple at their first inaugural dance in Washington, DC. i was watching it at CNN which didn't show the entire dance (bitin!!!) but i was able to see the full video at YouTube. it's nice that they're both tall and fit and the President was jaunty in his white tie which matched Michelle's one-shouldered floor-length white gown.

Beyonce serenaded the first couple with her version of Etta James' At Last and i think she sang it well while looking poised and beautiful at the same time. She was lucky to get the job but the choice of song was obvious: she played the role of Etta James in the movie "Cadillac Records" which is now in theatres and you have to know that to understand why she was mimicking James and not singing it her usual bootylicious way. hihihi. Also, the emotion in her voice was so strong and true and the joy and pride on her face mirrored what was felt by millions.

At Last is my favorite for about 3 years now. It's funny how i have heard this song a million times before but never got to like it until shortly after i met Fil. I even posted it here in September 2006: http://carmelbaylon.blogspot.com/2006/09/at-last-etta-james.html

I guess it takes somebody who has journeyed through life and love and finally found somebody to share it with to really relate to and appreciate this song. So if you are not in that stage yet, then i would understand why you may not be crazy about this song. but for me and the millions who have found love, felt the feeling and experienced the moment, it is THE love song that not only inspires and gives you that incredibly heavenly-like surreal feeling but it is also THE love song that sums up all you have been through, the pains and the aches and uncertainties, without leaving you sad and depressed but rather relieved, happy and thankful to have gone over it. In not too many words, the song was able to cover all that. The song also doesn't limit you to just dedicating it to your partner, boyfriend or husband, sometimes i sing it to baby racrac while i carry him and we slow dance and he loves it! :-)

And Etta James? She's a legend - incredible voice, so full of emotion, straight from the heart. A lot of artists have sang their own versions of this song but nobody, in my opinion, ever came close. They can try...
